Medusa Women’s Jiu-Jitsu

The most anticipated women’s Jiu-Jitsu event of the year took place on Saturday, October 2nd in beautiful Cancun, Mexico. Medusa Women’s Jiu-Jitsu brought the best female grapplers in the world to compete at the historic event, and the performances did not disappoint. The event featured both Combat Jiu-Jitsu (CJJ) rules and EBI rules.

The first match of the night under Combat Jiu-Jitsu (CJJ) rules was between Juliana Miller and EBI bantamweight champion Bia Mesquita. As the fan favorite, the expectation was for Mesquita to win, however in a surprising turn of events, 10th Planet “The Killer” Juliana Miller, took the victory as the match went on to overtime in what the UFC Live Pass announcer called “a colossal upset.”

Another highlight moment of the tournament was Nikki Sullivan’s impressive win against UFC Veteran Gillian Robertson by knee bar. The attack resulted from a scrap in which Robertson’s ineffective strikes were unable to neutralize Sullivan’s submission.

Crowned queens of the tournament, were Brianne Ste-Marie, who won the title of Bantamweight champion, and Fatima Kline, the first-ever Medusa Strawweight Champion.

Created by Eric Bravo and Victor Davila, the masterminds behind EBI, Medusa is on a mission to become the greatest Jiu-Jitsu organization for women in the sport. The inaugural event marks the beginning of a new era of women’s BJJ.
