Submissions on the Shore
Story and Photos By Evelyn Sutton
Founded by Cortney Danielle Carlson and Albert Tapia, Submissions on the Shore is a strong supporter of women’s Jiu-Jitsu. We traveled to Galveston, Texas to cover their latest action-packed installment which featured sixteen teams of three athletes competing for the grand prize of $5,000. Team “Will Sub For Money” took the victory which came down to the very last match, an intense night full of excitement.
Celebrating their one year anniversary, Submissions on the Shore put on an exciting all-women event in Galveston, Texas. Incredible athletes such as Amanda Loewen, Talita Nogueira, and daughter, Luiza Nogueira shared the stage with their teams. Subs on the Shore employs submission-only rules, with mandatory overtime (EBI rules or sudden-death) if no submission happens in regulation. The decision came down to the final match of the last round. After an intense duel, Zaira Cousins, from team Will Sub For Money, won against Faye Cherrier from Atos Atlanta. Zaira was also awarded “Submission of the Night” awards for her efficient mounted and inverted triangles. Congratulations to the winning team, all the fighters who participated and the promotion team!
