Danielle Kelly wins against Carla Esparza
The BJJ star takes the win against former UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza by doctor’s stoppage due to an accidental gruesome cut from slam
FURY Pro Grappling event on Friday December 30th, featured Danielle Kelly versus Carla Esparza. Esparza stepped in last minute to replace Rose Namajunas who was originally scheduled for the match but couldn’t attend due to COVID-19 protocols.
Esparza had this to say after the match: “Sorry guys, accidental head butt on a slam led to a cut and a stop in the match. In good spirits! Just gotta get a couple stitches.”
To which Kelly responded in her IG: “So I just want to say I wish @carlaesparza1 a speedy recovery. Not me or her were expecting that and maybe a rematch in the future if it doesn’t get between schedules. Honestly I was confused and a lot of adrenaline was going through me. I was just really excited to be apart of a huge event with everyone watching. Im also just nerding out this mark on my face lol. Thank you to everyone for the support and my sponsors. Thank you @furygrappling UFC Fight Pass

Kelly has become one of the most exciting Jiujiteiras to watch in the last couple of years. We may see a rematch between Kelly and Esparza in 2022 or perhaps against the current UFC strawweight champion, who Kelly was originally schedu;ed to foght against. Whatever upcoming match the New Year brings to Kelly, it will certainly be a fight you don’t want to miss!
