IBJJF PAN 2022 in Orlando, Florida stirred up strong emotions from both the audience and the competitors, and Jessa’s Khan battle against Thamires Diógenes de Aquino for the light feather title in the women’s division was no different. Last year, her first time at PAN, Jessa lost to Lavinia Barbosa in the final for the rooster division. Jessa revealed the loss and her overall performance in 2021 was very difficult for her and it took a significant change of focus, long training hours, months of preparation and a renewed sense of determination to get herself ready for the 2022 season. The hard work paid off and the Jiujiteira celebrated her accomplishment with gratitude.
Thamires dominated the first few minutes of the match being more aggressive and explosive, showing good pressure and control, however once Jessa was able to find space, she quickly switched things around and took over. From that moment on, Jessa maintained the top position and gained points advantage. After numerous submissions attempts from both fighters and even a pants drag by Thamires, Jessa was able to retain her lead and win the coveted title of world champ.
