UAEJJF Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup
The Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup is one of the most prestigious events in the UAE’s Jiu-Jitsu calendar and boasts a total value of more than one million dirhams in championship prizes.
The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF), the governing body for the sport in the UAE, recently hosted the highly anticipated Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City. The competitions featured athletes from various clubs and academies in the UAE, all competing for both medals, glories and the chance to win enticing cash prizes.
This year’s tournament featured four distinct categories: Under 14, Under 16, Under 18, and Adults, with each category open to male and female athletes.
The Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup 2023 began on a high note with preliminary round competitions in the Under 14 and Under 16 divisions. The event was an exciting affair, with male and female athletes from various clubs and academies in the UAE showcasing their skills and talents.
The day was filled with thrilling action as Al Ain and Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club secured their place in the finals for Under 14 boys, while Baniyas and Sharjah Self-Defense made it to the finals in the girls’ division. In the Under 16 category, Al Ain and Al Wahda clubs secured their spots in the boys’ final, while Baniyas and Al Jazira qualified for the girls’ final.
The Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup preliminary rounds continued at Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City on the second day, with the under-18s division displaying impressive skills and determination. Capping off an action-packed evening filled with twists and suspense, Al Ain and Baniyas secured their spots in the finals of the men’s and women’s divisions.
Saturday’s competitions saw young athletes from various jiu-jitsu clubs competing in intense matches, showcasing technique and strategy. The matches were closely contested, and the raucous crowd was on the edge of their seats as each competitor tried to outdo the other.
The preliminary rounds concluded with the youth division showcasing impressive skills and determination. Three clubs, Al Wahda, Baniyas, and Al Ain, secured their spot in the finals.
Both Al Ain Club and Baniyas Club delivered strong and convincing performances, enabling them to qualify for the men’s category final and compete for the title while Al Wahda and Baniyas went head-to-head in the women’s category final to determine the ultimate winner.
Top class talent at the Finals
The Mubadala Arena was buzzing with excitement as the Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup finals for Under-16 and Under-18 categories came to a close with a thrilling showdown of top-class talent. Fans from all over the country flocked to witness the action on the Ramadan evening, and they were not disappointed. In the nail-biting finals of the Under-16 men’s category, Al Ain Club emerged victorious, defeating Al Wahda, who finished second, and Al Jazira, who secured the third spot. The competition was intense, but Al Ain stayed focused and composed, ultimately securing their well-deserved victory.
In the Under-16 women’s division, Baniyas Club claimed the title, beating Al-Jazira, who finished as the runner-up, and Al-Ain, who took the third spot. The women’s matches were just as exciting, and Baniyas Club rose to the occasion and clinched the championship title. Meanwhile, in the Under-18 division, Baniyas swept both the men’s and women’s categories, with Al Ain Club finishing as the runner-up in both divisions. Al Wahda secured the third position, but Baniyas was undoubtedly the star of the show, showcasing their dominance on the mat and claiming multiple titles.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan presented trophies to the winners of the Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup 2023 in the Under 14 and Adults divisions at Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City. During the visit, Their Highnesses congratulated the players on their victories and praised the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation for its efforts in nurturing young talent and advancing the development of the sport in the UAE.
Their Highnesses were accompanied by His Excellency Abdel Moneim Al Hashemi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, President of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Union, and Senior Vice President of the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation, as well as a number of the UAEJJF’s Board members and club officials.
